Line Chart - Material Design

Material Design Line Charts offer a modern and visually appealing way to represent data trends over time. Using the react-google-charts library, you can integrate interactive Material Design Line Charts into your React applications, leveraging the features of Google Charts.

Each example below is interactive, rendered directly in your browser using SVG, and offers tooltips for detailed views when hovered.

High-Level Overview

To render a Material Design Line Chart, you need to provide the following props to the Chart component:

  • chartType: Set this to "Line" to specify the Material Design Line Chart.
  • data: Provide the chart data in a tabular format.
  • options: (Optional) Customize the chart with various options like title, colors, and display settings.
  • width and height: (Optional) Define the size of the chart.

Basic Usage

import React from "react";
import { Chart } from "react-google-charts";

const data = [
["Year", "Sales", "Expenses"],
["2013", 1000, 400],
["2014", 1170, 460],
["2015", 660, 1120],
["2016", 1030, 540],
];

const options = {
chart: {
title: "Company Performance",
subtitle: "Sales and Expenses over the Years",
},
};

function App() {
return (
<Chart
chartType="Line"
width="100%"
height="400px"
data={data}
options={options}
/>
);
}

export default App;

Examples

Below are interactive examples of Material Design Line Charts rendered using react-google-charts. Each example demonstrates different features and customization options. You can interact with the charts directly in your browser.

Basic Material Design Line Chart

This example shows a basic Material Design Line Chart with default settings.

Dual Y-Axis Material Design Line Chart

This example shows how to create a Material Design Line Chart with dual Y-axes.

Customizing the Material Design Line Chart

You can customize various aspects of the Material Design Line Chart using the options prop.

Styling Options

Customize the chart's appearance:

const options = {
chart: {
title: "Company Performance",
subtitle: "Sales and Expenses over the Years",
},
width: 900,
height: 500,
colors: ["#e2431e", "#f1ca3a"],
curveType: "function", // Smooths the lines
lineWidth: 4,
pointSize: 7,
legend: { position: "bottom" },
};

Dual Y-Axis

To create a chart with dual Y-axes, specify multiple axes in the series and axes options:

const options = {
chart: {
title: "Average Temperatures and Daylight in Iceland Throughout the Year",
subtitle: "in degrees Celsius and hours",
},
width: 900,
height: 500,
series: {
0: { axis: "Temps" },
1: { axis: "Daylight" },
},
axes: {
y: {
Temps: { label: "Temps (Celsius)" },
Daylight: { label: "Daylight (Hours)" },
},
},
};

Colors and Line Styles

Customize colors and line styles to match your application's theme:

const options = {
chart: {
title: "Sales Growth",
},
colors: ["#6f9654", "#1c91c0"],
lineWidth: 3,
pointSize: 5,
legend: { position: "right" },
};
